Swedish, deep tissue or lymphatic: which massage is for you?

Swedish, deep tissue and lymphatic massage feel completely different on the table. Here’s how to tell which one you’ll enjoy most.

A guest relaxing during a gentle, light-touch massage

The quick answer

If you’re new to massage, book Swedish. If you like firm pressure and want time spent on particular areas, book deep tissue. If you prefer a very light, gentle touch, book lymphatic. For most people that’s the whole decision. The rest of this page explains how each one feels.

Swedish massage

How it feels: long, gliding strokes with light to medium pressure, adjusted to you. It’s the classic full-body massage.

Best for: a first massage, or simply unwinding after a long week.

Times and prices: 30 min $60, 60 min $90, 90 min $130, 120 min $180.

Deep tissue massage

How it feels: slow, guided strokes with firm pressure, focused on the areas you choose, like your neck, shoulders or back. It should feel firm, not painful. Your therapist checks in on pressure throughout, and you can ask for lighter or firmer at any time.

Best for: guests who like firm pressure and want more time on the areas they pick.

Times and prices: 30 min $60, 60 min $90, 90 min $130, 120 min $180. Read more on our deep tissue massage page.

Lymphatic massage

How it feels: a soft, light-touch massage with slow, rhythmic, wave-like movements. It’s calm, quiet and gentle, and very different from deep tissue.

Best for: anyone who prefers a light touch, or wants a restful massage.

Times and prices: 60 min $108, 90 min $158. Read more on our lymphatic massage page.

Ours is a relaxation massage done in a spa setting, not a medical treatment. If you have a medical condition or have had recent surgery, please check with your doctor first and tell us when you book.

What every massage includes

Whichever you choose, your massage is in a private room and includes:

  • Warm cream and aloe oil
  • Aromatherapy
  • Hot steamy towels
  • A scalp massage

60 minutes or 90?

Sixty minutes is enough for a full-body massage with some focus time. Ninety minutes lets your therapist spend longer on the areas you choose, like your neck, shoulders or back.

A few more options

  • Other styles. We also offer Japanese shiatsu, which uses finger and palm pressure in a steady rhythm; an essential oil massage with warm stones; and our Ginger Body Wrap. They’re all on the massage menu.
  • Add-ons. You can add cupping ($30), gua sha ($30), hot stone ($10) or a sugar scrub ($50) to any massage.
  • Coming with someone? In a couples massage, each of you chooses your own massage and pressure.
